Introduction
The Greek Operating Room Nurses Association (GORNA) was founded in 1987 and represents more than 1400 perioperative nurses through out the country.
GORNA's members are nurses who works in operating rooms, central sterilization units and in anaesthesiology departments. In order to cover the special educational and professional needs, GORNA established three different sections for each of the above mentioned categories.
Since April 1992, GORNA is a Board member of the European Operating Room Nurses Association (EORNA). We have organized seventeen succeful national congresses, the 3rd European perioperative congress and in an annual basis we organize one day seminars for sterilization, disinfection, control of SSI etc aiming to the continuing education of perioperative nurses. Please, notice that in our country there isn't an Association for Sterilization specialists.
